Het Meetjesland (The Meetjes Region):

The Meetjes region lies between Brugge and Gent. The northern Kreken section displays polders, quiet streams and canals. Further south, you will enjoy gently rolling hills, abundant woodland and tranquil waters. The Meetjes region definitely has an agrarian character. Its landscapes will gradually overwhelm you with peace and serenity.

De Leiestreek (The Leie Region):

The River Leie has its source in the French town of Lisbourg and runs to the city of Gent, where it flows into the River Scheldt. It follows a gentle and meandering course over a distance of 180 km. The British named it the “Golden River”, alluding to the wealth brought by the linen industry to the region. The Leie’s water was ideal for retting flax, and played a crucial role in the development of this area.

Het Waasland (The Waas Region):

Although the Waas region may not seem like Flanders’ largest area, it certainly ranks as one of the most diverse. The famous medieval character Raynaert de Vos lurks in every corner of the Waas region, and beckons you to places you never thought existed. Water is never far away in this land. Take a boat trip on the Scheldt River to Mercatoreiland, the other famous area of the Waas Region.

De Schelde- en Denderstreek (The Scheldt and Dender Region):

The River Scheldt carves its course in a subtle manner, its waters gently sloshing along its banks. On the water’s edge, stand historic monuments celebrating vital energy as well as life’s pleasures. Each visit will reveal the soul of towns where the past can come alive in local monuments and museums. Look at these olden times with laughter or a tear. Quaint and secluded villages come into sight at every turn, tucked peacefully behind dikes and polders.

De Vlaamse Ardennen (The Flemish Ardennes):

The Creator must have been gloriously inspired here, as rarely will you see such grandeur in a single region. The hills, valleys, woodlands, rushing waters, and nature preserves of East Flanders’ southern region are an absolute delight. The long and vast natural area of the Scheldt valley is also dotted with distinctive villages. Among them is the historic and artistic jewel of Oudenaarde. The River Zwalm also offers many panoramic viewpoints.
